Our camp is 83 years old – it was one of the first programs that were instituted at Marks JCH upon building completion. And there is a good reason for that – we always believed that camp is a crucial part of child’s life. Camp is where children learn how to play soccer and paint; it is a safe environment where each child can make a friend; where growth is nurtured and development is a constant process; where identity is formed and character is built. Camp is considered to be one of the most rewarding and lasting experiences in a child’s life. That is why, every summer over 11 million children attend day and resident camps throughout North America. Join them by attending Marks JCH Day Camp this summer and discover that magic feeling that has our campers coming back year after year.

Summer Day Camp and Riding School. We are the only camp on Long Island to offer the Total Camp Experience with an Extensive Riding Program! Let your children find their passion here! Thomas School of Horsemanship was founded in 1943 by Bill and Fran Thomas, and in 1950, they purchased and developed a stretch of potato fields in Melville. From those humble beginnings their dream was realized: A place where families can enjoy all the gifts that horses have to offer, a place where children can spend their summers riding, playing, learning, and growing, and a place for a supportive community to share in the joys of horsemanship.

Giovanni da Verrazano, an Italian-born navigator sailing for France, discovered New York Bay in 1524. Henry Hudson, an Englishman employed by the Dutch, reached the bay and sailed up the river now bearing his name in 1609, the same year that northern New York was explored and claimed for France by Samuel de Champlain. In 1624 the first permanent Dutch settlement was established at Fort Orange (now Albany). One year later Peter Minuit purchased Manhattan Island from the Indians for trinkets worth about 60 Dutch guilders and founded the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam (now New York City), which was surrendered to the English in 1664.
