Hardin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky . It was formed in 1793. As of the 2010 United States Census , the population was 105,543. Its county seat is at Elizabethtown . Hardin County is part of the Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Metropolitan Statistical Area , part of the overall Louisville metro area. The county is named for John Hardin , a Continental Army officer during the American Revolution . President Abraham Lincoln was born in what was then Hardin County near Hodgenville, now part of modern-day LaRue County .
