Our grandson and granddaughter, 13 and 14 years old, spent their first camping experience ever at Makemie Woods last month, participating in the Canoe Camp. They loved every minute of it and didn't want to leave when we came to pick them up. One of our concerns was their attachment to their i-phones and computers, which they were not allowed to have during the week at camp. However, they didn't even think about them during camp; they were too busy having a good time and making friends. Although we returned their phones to them at the end of camp, they wanted to tell us about their experience before calling anyone! We were overjoyed with their response to the camp, their counselors and we were also pleased to see the change in how they related to each other and to us. They received good Bible training and memorized some scripture. Both want to return next summer for 2 weeks instead of one. Our granddaughter wants to become a counselor, etc. etc. We cannot say enough about their experience. We certainly want to be able to return them to camp in 2013.

My kids who are now ages 22 and 20 began attending Makemie Woods at ages 8 and 5. During their growing up years (through high school), they never missed a summer. When they became teenagers they began volunteering an working at Makemie Woods. Makemie Woods provides an awesome camp experience and it also provides an awesome community. I have always thought that it takes a village to raise a child and I am grateful that Makemie Woods is part of my family's "village"!

One of the best things we've ever done for our daughter is sending her to Makemie Woods. God's love is present and powerful in every event, activity, and staff member! She has made "forever friends" at Makemie Woods, and after returning year after year, she is excited to volunteer there this summer as she prepares for her senior year of high school. Her favorite camps? F.A.M.E. (Fine Arts Mission Experience) and a life-changing experience last summer at Y.E.S. (Youth Encountering Servanthood).

I started at this camp many years ago as a camper myself and have watched my children, a nephew, all their friends and hopefully my grandchild will be next. The skills that are taught are fun but serve a dual purpose of preparing one for dealing with challenges in life. The counselors are trained and know exactly what the campers need to make the experience rewarding. I dropped one son off crying not to be left, and picked him up crying to stay longer. Foundations in faith, life, and fellowship will ground your child and keep them longing to come again!

I've gone to Makemie Woods since first grade and I'm in tenth now. I can honestly say that it is my favorite place on earth. Every time I've been there, I've thoroughly enjoyed myself and anytime I'm away, I only want to go back. It's a life-changing experience and the best camp that I've ever been to. I tried going to more but none have been like Makemie :) Every time you go back, it's like a big family reunion and I couldn't ask for anything better.
